We yesterday witness'd the painful pleasure
of meeting, our dear brother J[?]. Bonsall -- I
say painfull as it reviv'd the rembrance of
our beloved departed Sister, & caus'd our tears
to flow afresh, yes, my dear friend, the loss
is to me irreparable & beyond description.
Ah dear belov'd Companion of my way Friend of my youth & partner of my heart Where Friendship cou'd its healing balm convey And soul to soul its inmost thoughts impart And tho' unerring wisdom all divine Has veil'd from sight the object of my love Ne'er from my heart while mem'ry shall be mineThy deep fix'd image ever will remove
but notwithstanding her mem'ry continues to be
very precious, -- I have long since ceas'd to mourn
firmly beleiving my loss is her unspeakable gain
What cannot resignation do
It wonders can perform
That powerful charm, "thy will be done."
Can lay the loudest storm
O our hearts are fasten'd to this world

O our hearts are fasten'd to this world
by strong & tender ties;
And ev'ry sorrow cuts a string,
And urges us to rise.
When Heav'n wou'd kindly set us free,
And earths enchantments end,
It takes the most effectual means,
And robs us of a friend.
the fervent pray'r of my heart is, that the repeated
affictions I have experienc'd since coming to this
Country, may be the means of weaning my affection,
from all the uncertain, & transitory enjoyments
of time, & placing them on the unchangable
Truth --
12th mo 26th I began this letter the day after B.thers Is arrival, (near above 2 moths ago) & intended to have
written a lengthy one, but have been so much
engag'd since with the necessary Concerns of my family
that I have found no time to finish it, [?]
[?] Isaac expects to leave us on 7th day
& I ought to write to my sisters & some others but
fear I shall not have time
thy letter was very acceptable, & feel myself
much indebted to thee, as the only friend, (except
_ear[?] relations) that have thought worth while
by strong & tender ties;
And ev'ry sorrow cuts a string,
And urges us to rise.
